PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - In an effort to strengthen connectivity between West Java and Central Java, Yogyakarta, and the eastern tip of East Java, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has once again introduced a new transportation service innovation by launching the Sangkuriang Train (KA) connecting Bandung and Ketapang, Banyuwangi.
The Sangkuriang train is scheduled to begin operating on May 1, 2026. This service is presented to answer the public's need for a comfortable, safe, efficient, and timely mode of transportation for work, family gatherings, and inter-provincial tourism purposes.
KAI Daop 2 Bandung Public Relations Manager, Kuswardojo, said that the presence of the Sangkuriang train is a form of KAI's commitment to improving services to customers while expanding access to public mobility.
"We present the Sangkuriang train as a transportation solution that connects Bandung with various important cities on Java Island and Ketapang," said Kuswardojo.
Kuswardojo hopes that the presence of the Sangkuriang train will facilitate public mobility while encouraging economic growth and tourism in the areas it passes through.
The Sangkuriang train will be equipped with various service classes to provide options to suit customer needs. Each train offers a total of 456 seats: 200 executive class seats, 240 economy class seats, and 16 compartment class seats, offering greater comfort and privacy.
In addition to its adequate capacity, the Sangkuriang train is also designed to provide a higher-quality travel experience with modern amenities. This is expected to increase public interest in switching to rail for long-distance travel.
Kuswardojo added that the presence of the Sangkuriang train is also part of KAI's efforts to support inter-regional connectivity in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.
"Trains are an efficient and low-emission mode of mass transportation. With this service, we hope that people will increasingly choose trains as their primary choice for long-distance travel," he added.
The Sangkuriang train's long-distance routes allow passengers to reach various strategic destinations on Java without having to change modes of transportation. This undoubtedly provides convenience and efficiency in travel time. (Parno)
