PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Residents now have the option of direct flights to Palembang via Husein Sastranegara International Airport in Bandung.
Wings Air operated its inaugural Bandung-Palembang flight with 40 passengers using an aircraft that took off at 09.17 WIB (7/8/2026).
This route provides an alternative way to travel to Sumatra without requiring people to first travel via Jakarta.
Wings Air Corporate Communications Strategic Danang Mandala Prihantoro said Palembang is the second city outside Java Island served by Wings Air.
"We are optimistic about customer enthusiasm. This flight is expected to accommodate the public's needs, whether for tourism, family trips, business trips, or various other purposes, while also providing convenience for West Java residents traveling through Husein Sastranegara International Airport in Bandung to Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II International Airport in Palembang," he said.
Danang expressed his appreciation to the Bandung City Government, the West Java Provincial Government, airport management, and all stakeholders.
"We would like to thank the Bandung City Government, the West Java Provincial Government, the airport management, and all stakeholders who have supported the smooth operation of this flight. We are optimistic that Husein Sastranegara International Airport in Bandung will become even busier," he said.
Wings Air has now opened two routes from Bandung to Lampung and Palembang to expand people's travel options.
"Currently, Wings Air has opened two routes, namely Bandung-Lampung and Bandung-Palembang, as easier and more comfortable travel options," he said.
Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said public interest in flights from Husein Sastranegara International Airport is showing a positive trend.
"I've spoken with Wings Air. Yesterday's flight to Lampung served about 15 passengers, while today's flight to Palembang carried about 20 to 30 passengers. Thank God, public interest is quite high because ticket prices aren't as high as we previously feared," he said.
Farhan said the reactivation of Husein Sastranegara International Airport began with the Bandung-Lampung flight operating (6/8/2026).
He hopes that airport operations will continue to develop, including through jet aircraft services which are scheduled to start (14/8/2026).
Yolanda passengers feel the benefits of the direct route because the journey to Palembang is more flexible and faster.
"With this flight, travel times are more flexible, especially for those of us who need a quick trip. So we don't have to spend too much time on the road," he said.
Kerry also took advantage of the direct flight to return home to Palembang without having to go through Jakarta.
"With the resumption of flights from Husein Sastranegara International Airport in Bandung, travel time has been significantly reduced, as previously we had to depart via Jakarta first. This route is very helpful. We hope this route will continue and operate in the future," he said.
Bandung resident Dwi Puspitasari said direct flights make traveling to Palembang easier and more practical.
"Previously, if you wanted to go to Palembang, you had to depart via Jakarta, which took longer. With this direct flight, travel has become much easier and more convenient. I hope that Husein Sastranegara International Airport in Bandung will continue to develop and that more airlines will open flights from Bandung," he said.
The Bandung-Palembang route expands citizens' mobility options for business, education, tourism, and family travel needs.
