PORTALJABAR, KUNINGAN REGENCY - Joint personnel have successfully extinguished some of the fires in the Mount Ciremai National Park (TNGC) area. Firebreaks have also been established along the fire's edge to prevent it from spreading into densely vegetated areas.

The joint personnel consisted of around 100 people from the Kuningan Regency BPBD, West Java BPBD, Mount Ciremai National Park Office (BTNGC), Fire Care Community, TNI / POLRI, Satpol PP, Kuningan Regency Fire Department, nature lover community volunteers and local residents.

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi also came to monitor and help extinguish the fire in Mount Ciremai National Park on Thursday (October 22, 2026). He asked communities and villagers to work together to build firebreaks to prevent the fire from spreading. Each person involved in this effort was paid an honorarium of Rp 250,000 per day.

In addition, KDM, Dedi Mulyadi's nickname, will also coordinate with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to create artificial rain in the Mount Ciremai National Park area. Aerial firefighting efforts, including water bombing, will also be used to extinguish the flames.

"I have communicated with the Deputy Minister of Defense and the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU). Helicopters will be deployed immediately to extinguish the fire using water bombing," he said while at the location.

The Head of the West Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Teten Ali, added that the movement of hotspots and wind direction were still being monitored from the field post.

In addition, joint personnel also carried out sweeping (mopping up) and extinguishing remaining embers/smoke to prevent reignition (reignition).

"We are also keeping personnel on standby at vulnerable points along the firebreak border until the evening," said Teten.

For the safety of the joint personnel team, drinking water, food, and personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks, goggles, and helmets have been distributed to personnel in the field.

Another effort made is to coordinate regularly with the Kuningan Regency Government, the Mount Ciremai National Park Office (BTNGC) and related stakeholders.

According to Teten, the steep, hilly, and rocky terrain makes firefighting vehicle access and personnel mobility difficult. Strong, shifting winds trigger new embers (spotting). Water sources are also quite far from the fire site.

The extent of the burned area in the Mount Ciremai National Park is currently being assessed. The fire occurred in the Sipenpen Batu Arca Block, Kuningan Region I, at an elevation of approximately 1,000 meters above sea level. The burned vegetation included shrubs, reeds, dry litter, and pine trees.
