PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The West Java General Election Commission (KPU) will hold a launch event for the 2024 West Java Governor and Deputy Governor Election at the Ganesha Cultural Center (Sabuga) ITB, Bandung on Monday (27/5/24). It is hoped that this activity will mark the start of the simultaneous regional head electoral contestation in West Java.

Head of the West Java KPU's Socialization, Voter Education and Community Participation Division, Hedi Ardia, said that this launch marked an important first step in a series of election processes that will determine the next leader of West Java. Meanwhile, the theme for the 2024 Gubernatorial Election is "2024 West Java Gubernatorial Election as an Initiation of Democratic Culture".

"Why this theme was raised is because we want to revitalize culture as an important part of strengthening democratic values. For a long time, our culture with its compassion, compassion and care is compatible with the universal value of democracy which respects the rights of others but is forgotten. "That's why elections are scary," said Hedi, Wednesday (22/5/24).

Through this theme, it is hoped that it can become a place for education and participation to have a positive impact on strengthening the democratic system in West Java. Because according to him, the gubernatorial election is not just about choosing a leader but is an important opportunity to educate the public about the importance of active public participation in making policies.

Apart from that, through this launch the party also wants to remind the public that there will be simultaneous Regional Head Elections on November 27. Both the gubernatorial election and the simultaneous regional elections are not the agenda of the election organizers and the government alone, but of all citizens whose constitutional rights are guaranteed.

When asked about the concept of the event at the launch activity, Hedi explained that the concept of the event was of course in accordance with the theme raised, namely cultural initiation. Therefore, this activity will not be without a touch of cultural elements that represent the region in West Java.

"At that moment we will also introduce the mascot and jingle that will be used at the 2024 West Java gubernatorial election. The mascot itself is two maungs named Sili and Wangi which are taken from the word Siliwangi," he said.

According to the information received, the Axis tiger is historically a symbol of West Java and the TKR Siliwangi Division. This animal has predominantly yellow fur with striking black lines symbolizing the fertile and diverse natural beauty of West Java.

The jingle is entitled "Voices for West Java" created by residents of Tasikmalaya District. Both (mascot and jingle) are the result of a competition held by the West Java KPU since a month ago. The determination of the winners is both based on the assessment of the jury who have expertise in their respective fields. (Parno)
