PORTALJABAR, BEKASI REGENCY - Acting Regent of Bekasi Asep Surya Atmaja attended the inauguration of the management of the Indonesian Dentists Association of Bekasi Regency at the Java Palace Jababeka Cikarang Hotel (11/04/2026), while also encouraging concrete steps to add dentists to meet the needs of public health services.
Asep Surya Atmaja said the number of dentists in Bekasi Regency is still limited compared to the needs of the population of around 3.4 million people.
Population growth and industrial activity have led to a continued increase in the need for dental and oral health services in various regions.
Asep explained that the shortage of dentists is still felt by people in northern areas such as Muara Gembong and its surroundings.
"There may be quite a lot of general practitioners, but there is still a shortage of dentists, especially in northern areas like Muara Gembong and the surrounding area," said Asep.
The Bekasi Regency Government is encouraging the Indonesian Dentists Association of Bekasi Regency to collaborate with universities that have dentistry study programs.
This collaboration is expected to provide internship dentists who can be placed in areas with limited health workers.
"We hope there will be collaboration with universities so that intern dentists can be placed in areas with a shortage of skilled personnel, such as the northern region," said Asep.
Asep believes that the role of dentists is important in increasing public awareness of maintaining dental and oral health from an early age.
Dental disease that is not treated properly has the potential to trigger other health problems in the body.
Asep also appreciated the various social service activities of the Indonesian Dentists Association that helped expand access to health services for the community.
"We appreciate the community service activities carried out by PDGI. This is a concrete and positive step in helping the community and improving access to healthcare," said Asep.
Febrina Roulita Siregar, Chairperson of the Indonesian Dentists Association for Bekasi Regency, expressed the organization's commitment to continue providing professional and beneficial dental health services to the community.
The Indonesian Dentists Association of Bekasi Regency actively collaborates with local governments and professional health organizations in various humanitarian activities.
"We are always present alongside other professional organizations, providing dental and oral health services, education, and trauma healing for child disaster victims. This demonstrates our sincere concern for the community," said Febrina.
The Indonesian Dentists Association of Bekasi Regency also held a dental health social service for children with special needs at the Wijaya Kusuma Special School in Gandasari Village, West Cikarang District on (12/01/2026).
The activity provides counseling, dental health checks, and a friendly service approach for children with special needs.
