PORTALJABAR, BEKASI REGENCY - Acting Regent of Bekasi Asep Surya Atmaja gathered residents' aspirations regarding flooding and traffic jams during the 1447 Hijri Ramadan Safari in Sukamulya Village, Sukatani District, February 25, 2026.
Asep stated that the Pilar to Sukatani Highway section was no longer able to accommodate the volume of vehicles due to housing growth, which had triggered traffic congestion.
The Bekasi Regency Government is preparing to widen roads and normalize rivers to ease congestion and reduce the risk of overflowing the Cikarang River.
He emphasized that illegal buildings along the route would be regulated and relocated so that the widening and normalization process could run effectively.
This step is targeted to have a direct impact on the smooth flow of vehicles and reduce the potential for flooding in residential areas.
Asep revealed that the plan had been coordinated with West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi and the River Basin Center.
The regional government will shift the road construction budget to accelerate the handling of areas prone to traffic jams and flooding.
"This is an opportunity for us to socialize and listen to the community's aspirations so we can follow up on them immediately," said Asep.
He ensured that all policies adhered to regulations and requested permission from the Ministry of Home Affairs, as he was still acting head of the Bekasi Regency Communications and Information Office. (Bekasi Regency Communications and Information Office/bhf)
