PORTALJABAR, BEKASI REGENCY - Acting Regent of Bekasi, Asep Surya Atmaja, accompanied the Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, to pay their respects to the victims of the train accident involving the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the Commuter Line train near Bekasi Station, which left deep sorrow.

One of the victims is known to be a KompasTV employee, Nur Ainia Eka Rahmadhyna (32) with an address at Griya Asri 2 Housing Complex, Sumberjaya Village, Tambun Selatan District.

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi emphasized the importance of securing all railway crossings, including unofficial ones, to prevent further accidents. He highlighted the many new roads that are not integrated with official railway lines operated by PT Kereta Api Indonesia, such as the case in Cirebon that left a train driver permanently disabled.

"All crossings must have safety measures. Otherwise, incidents will continue to recur," he stressed.

In densely populated areas such as Bekasi, the West Java Provincial Government is also encouraging the gradual construction of flyovers with support from the central government.

Furthermore, in the same place, Acting Regent of Bekasi Asep Surya Atmaja revealed that his party was still collecting data on the victims, including five people who were suspected of being residents of Bekasi Regency even though administratively they still had ID cards from outside the area.

"We are concerned that these five people are residents of Bekasi Regency who reside here but have not yet moved administratively. We are still investigating this," he said in an interview on Wednesday (April 29, 2026).

In addition, he said the total number of affected victims reached dozens of people and are currently being treated in a number of hospitals in the Bekasi area.

"God willing, the Bekasi Regency Government is responsible for the treatment and care of the victims. We have also provided direct assistance to the victims' families," said Asep Surya Atmaja.

Furthermore, Asep Surya Atmaja emphasized that the local government will not only focus on handling victims, but will also consider the sustainability of assistance, especially for victims who are the backbone of their families.

"We will think about the future, especially if the victim is the primary breadwinner. This is the responsibility of the local government," he added.

Regarding the causes of accidents, the Acting Regent of Bekasi also highlighted the classic problem of level crossings, which is still prevalent in Bekasi Regency. He considered this condition a high-risk factor that must be addressed immediately.

"This is a big challenge for us. Many crossings are only lightly guarded, with some even using bamboo barriers and being manned by residents," he said.

The Bekasi Regency Government, he continued, will immediately coordinate with relevant parties, including PT KAI, to conduct a comprehensive evaluation and handling.

"We will collaborate with KAI. Going forward, we're considering building flyovers or improving security systems. This concerns public safety," he stressed.

He also ensured that improvements to crossing infrastructure would be a priority and would be budgeted immediately.

"This is an emergency and dangerous situation. We don't want something like this to happen again. God willing, we will allocate the budget as soon as possible," Asep concluded. (Bekasi Regency Communications and Information Office/rka)
