PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan opened the Joint Scout Movement Training of Correctional Institutions, State Detention Centers, and Special Child Development Institutions throughout Greater Bandung at the Class IIA Banceuy Prison (27/6/2026) to provide 110 inmates with character education.
Farhan said that coaching through the Scout Movement is an important provision so that inmates are ready to return to community life.
"Everyone has the right to a fair opportunity to reintegrate into society according to their abilities, desires, and the prevailing values and norms. That's why the Scout Movement exists to build personality, character, discipline, responsibility, cooperation, concern, and love for their country," he said.
Farhan believes that the joint training is an effort to build character, discipline, and a sense of responsibility as provisions for facing life after completing the training period.
He reminded participants to use life experiences as lessons to build a better future.
"Don't use life experiences as trauma, but use them as lessons to prepare you for facing a long future," he said.
According to Farhan, mental and character development is increasingly important amidst the rapid development of technology and the flow of information.
"We need to build a very strong character within ourselves to be able to sort, process, and utilize incoming information," he said.
Farhan hopes that the Scout Movement, together with correctional institutions, state detention centers, and special child development institutions, will continue to provide beneficial learning spaces for inmates.
"Never hesitate to keep your dreams alive. Never be pessimistic about holding on to high hopes. The future doesn't belong to others; it's in our own hands," he said.
The activity, themed Brotherhood, Achievement, and Work, was attended by around 110 inmates with a series of discussions, scouting competitions, character building, a get-together evening, and the distribution of plant seeds.
