
PORTALJABAR, SUMEDANG REGENCY - Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin accompanied President Prabowo Subianto at the inauguration of the Jatigede Hydroelectric Power Plant, Monday (20/1/2025).
The Jatigede Hydroelectric Power Plant in Sumedang Regency is one of 26 power plants that were inaugurated simultaneously in 18 provinces throughout Indonesia.
President Prabowo expressed his pride in inaugurating this major project group, which is considered one of the largest energy projects in the world.
"This is probably the inauguration of the world's largest energy project of 3.2 gigawatts at once with the addition of 11 follow-up projects for the construction of substations and networks," said Prabowo.
The President also highlighted the importance of energy independence for Indonesia to achieve developed country status.
The President is optimistic that within five years Indonesia will be able to achieve energy self-sufficiency, reduce fuel imports, and accelerate industrialization and downstreaming of natural resources.
"Energy transformation is vital to support our country to become a modern country, increase prosperity, and eliminate poverty. We are now one of the leading countries in energy transformation to renewable energy and clean energy," Prabowo said.
The President also expressed his appreciation to all parties who contributed to this major project, including construction workers, project managers, and government agencies who have supported the realization of the project.
The President called this achievement a major step in the history of Indonesia's energy development.
"Is there any other country that can inaugurate 26 projects in 18 provinces in one day with a total capacity of 3.2 gigawatts? This is proof of the strength of the Indonesian nation," he said.
The President also highlighted the challenge of providing electricity to thousands of villages that still do not have electricity. The need for funds of Rp48 trillion to solve the problem in the next five years.
At the end of his remarks, President Prabowo emphasized the government's commitment to accelerating the transformation towards industrialization and downstreaming.
"Indonesia will continue to progress, step by step, to achieve its goal of becoming a strong, modern and industrial country," he concluded.
Jatigede Hydroelectric Power Plant has a capacity of 2x55 megawatts (MW) from two power plants. The hydroelectric power plant uses water discharge from the Jatigede reservoir built by the PUPR Ministry.
Electricity from this hydropower plant is distributed through the 150 kiloVolt (kV) High Voltage Air Duct (SUTT) Jatigede Incomer Line 1 to the 150 kV New Kadipaten Main Substation and the 150 kV SUTT Jatigede Incomer Line 2 to the 150 kV New Sunyaragi Main Substation.
