PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan received a waste management award from West Java for the city government's commitment on (24/7/2026).

The Commitment and Leadership Appreciation Award in West Java Waste Management was presented by West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi at Sport Jabar Arcamanik.

Farhan said the award motivated the Bandung City Government to improve its waste management performance.

"This is a source of great pride for all levels of the Bandung City Government, as we received awards from the Governor for leadership and commitment to waste management. The village heads received awards, the sub-district heads received awards, and the departments also received awards," said Farhan.

He expressed his appreciation for the award given as an encouragement to improve waste management services.

"Thank you, Mr. Governor, for the award you have given us all, as motivation to work better and work even harder," he said.

Farhan emphasized that the award does not mean that the waste problem in Bandung City has been resolved.

According to him, the City of Bandung is currently only able to manage around 30 percent of the waste produced every day.

"Not yet, it's still a long way off. So far, we've only managed about 30 percent of our waste. There are still many challenges to overcome," he said.

Farhan mentioned three main challenges to waste management, namely budget limitations, changes in community behavior, and strengthening infrastructure.

"The budget, community development, and infrastructure are three very important things that we must continue to improve together," he explained.

Several areas such as Babakan Ciparay and Gedebage Districts are still a concern due to their high population density and waste volume.

In addition to the Bandung City Government, awards were also received by regional officials such as village heads, sub-district heads, and the Head of the Bandung City Environmental Service.

A number of award-winning regions also received assistance in the form of innovative waste processing equipment to support community-level waste management.

Farhan is optimistic that collaboration between the government, community, academics, and the business world will improve waste management in Bandung City.

These efforts are aimed at creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable urban environment for residents.
