PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bekasi Regency Government began relocating the overflow market traders from Jl. Kapten Sumantri and Jl. RE Martadinata to Pasar Baru in front of the old Ramayana Cikarang, on Friday (13/2/2026).

Acting Regent of Bekasi Asep Surya Atmaja, who went directly to the location, ensured that the relocation of 500 traders' stalls was carried out in an orderly manner, involving various elements, starting from the TNI, Polri, village officials, sub-district officials, and community leaders.

"Thank God, today we directly inspected the location where the vendors were relocated. The relocation involved restoring the road to its proper function and redirecting buying and selling activities back into the market," said Asep.

According to him, this relocation is a crucial step to reduce congestion, improve road safety, and organize trade activities to make them more orderly and comfortable. The local government has also prepared several supporting facilities, such as parking areas, waste management, and drainage improvements to prevent flooding.

"We'll tidy up the drainage at the front of the market and re-concrete it to prevent flooding. We'll fix everything as we go along, but the most important thing is that the vendors move out today," he said.

Asep emphasized that after the relocation and restructuring are complete, market activity is expected to increase local revenue (PAD). He believes that trading within the market is much more orderly than buying and selling on the street.

"If you want to trade, the place is in the market. Just like schools, their place is in the school, not on the street. This is a matter of function and order," he stressed.

Regarding supervision, Asep assured the government that it would not be negligent. He guaranteed that there would be no illegal levies in the newly relocated market area.

"We will continue to monitor this. God willing, it will be free from extortion because the activities are already within the market," he said.

Furthermore, Asep also stated that the condition of the old Ramayana Market building would be technically evaluated in conjunction with the relevant agencies. Given that the market has experienced three fires, the government will assess the building's structural suitability before reopening it.

"If the structure is still strong and safe, we will repair it. But if it's no longer suitable, we may dismantle it for safety reasons," he explained.

The Bekasi Regency Government hopes that the relocation of the Cikarang overflow market will create a more orderly, safe, and comfortable environment, while also maintaining the economic sustainability of traditional market vendors in the North Cikarang area.
