PORTALJABAR, BOGOR REGENCY - The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Culture, has relocated the Muara Cianten Inscription located in Ciaruteun Ilir Village, Muara Kaya Hamlet, Cibungbulang District, Bogor Regency. The relocation was carried out as a precautionary measure to prevent damage caused by the flow and inundation of the Cisadane River.

The Muara Cianten Inscription itself is an important relic of the Tarumanegara Kingdom, consisting of an andesite stone measuring 2.7 x 1.4 x 1.4 meters. It has been designated a national cultural heritage site through Decree No. 204/M/2016.

The relocation process began on December 6, 2025. However, prior to that, the relocation effort underwent a lengthy review and study, which began in 2008, continued in 2017, and was revalidated in 2023 by the West Java Province Regional IX Cultural Preservation Center. The implementation was carried out collaboratively by the Ministry of Culture, the Bogor Regency Government, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the local community.

"The Muara Cianten Inscription is a stone inscription that was previously located in a river and contains pictographs as an expression of the culture of the people at that time. The inscriptions in this area mark a very ancient civilization. In fact, in some scientific views, the inscriptions in Bogor Regency are among the oldest in the archipelago. Therefore, this area has great potential to be developed as a space for education, historical studies, and cultural tourism that is beneficial to the wider community," said Indonesian Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, Friday (16/12026).

Furthermore, the Indonesian Minister of Culture explained that the Muara Cianten Inscription is estimated to date from the 4th to 5th centuries AD. This inscription is considered a crucial part of the early history of the Bogor region and its surroundings. The Minister also stated that the inscription holds not only archaeological value but also educational and cultural value for the community.

The Muara Cianten Inscription itself is one of the sites discovered in the ancient Ciaruteun civilization. Besides the Muara Cianten Inscription, there are also several important relics from the Tarumanegara Kingdom, including the Ciaruteun Inscription, the Kebon Kopi I Inscription, and the Kebon Kopi II Inscription, which have yet to be rediscovered.

The Ministry of Culture has affirmed its commitment to protecting the Muara Cianten Inscription as a national cultural heritage site. The relocation of the inscription is expected to ensure its continued preservation while strengthening the area's function as an educational and historical space.
