PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The revitalization of regional languages has succeeded in increasing the enthusiasm of people in the regions to revive their mother tongue (regional language).
According to the Head of the Language Development and Development Agency, Endang Aminudin Aziz, this enthusiasm has increased since the regional language revitalization program was implemented in 2021.
"So since 2021 we have been programming the revitalization of regional languages throughout Indonesia, people's enthusiasm for reusing their regional languages is quite good," said Aminduin, at the Commemoration of International Mother Language Day in West Java, at the YPK Building Jl. Naripan Bandung City, Wednesday (21/2/2024).
According to Aminudin, revitalization of regional languages occurs by increasing regional language learning in schools from elementary to middle school.
"In areas where the use of regional languages is still quite good, we use learning patterns in schools. "The target is elementary to middle school students who are the next generation of regional language users," he said.
To measure the achievements of the regional language revitalization program, according to Imanudin, every year the Indonesian Mother Language Festival or FTBI is held, which takes the form of competitions for various language skills in the fields of song, literature, story writing, speeches and so on.
Aminudin underlined that the commemoration of International Mother Language Day, which is initiated by UNESCO every February 21, is a form of reminder of the importance of preserving regional languages or mother tongues, including in Indonesia which has 718 thousand regional languages. The theme for commemorating International Mother Language Day 2024 is 'Multilingual Education as a Pillar of Intergenerational Learning'.(pun/rdp*)
