PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The revitalization of Cijerah Cerah Market brings changes in terms of cleanliness, comfort, layout, and facilities for traders and visitors.

The market, once synonymous with piles of trash and disorganized conditions, has now become a cleaner and more comfortable trading space. Management has also introduced the Cijerah Food Market to expand economic activity.

Denny Arifin, Head of Cijerah Cerah Market in Bandung City, said the revitalization process took seven to eight months. The construction process proceeded smoothly thanks to the support of traders and local stakeholders.

This revitalization is the result of a collaboration between Perumda Pasar Juara, Bandung City, and PT Mitra Karya Prospekta.

"Cijerah Cerah Market is one of many markets in Bandung that has undergone revitalization or rejuvenation. Thank God, after the rejuvenation, the market is operating smoothly and has the full support of all parties," said Denny when met at the Cijerah Cerah Market area on Monday (October 26, 2026).

According to him, the changes are visible in the cleaner environment, better layout, and more adequate facilities. This market has also undergone an audit by the National Standardization Agency (BSN) and is the first market in Bandung to be certified by the Indonesian National Standard (SNI).

The facilities available now include more representative toilets, security and hygiene facilities, and a more organized parking area for motorbikes and cars.

Waste management is also a significant change. Markets are starting to develop their own waste management, particularly organic waste, through the cultivation of maggots, or black soldier fly larvae.

Denny explained that the processing is still in the development stage. Currently, the management processes approximately one quintal of organic waste and produces approximately 12 kilograms of maggots per week.

The maggots are then distributed as fish feed in ponds around the market.

"To process the waste, we use maggotization. We're trying to supply the resulting waste to ponds in the surrounding area. So, we've started managing the organic waste," he said.

Cijerah Food Market Boosts Economic Activity

In addition to improving traditional market facilities, management is developing the Cijerah Food Market, which was launched on October 17, 2026.

This culinary area was created to enliven market activity outside of traditional trading hours while simultaneously expanding business opportunities for culinary entrepreneurs.

Visitors can enjoy a variety of traditional foods and coffee. The management is also open to prospective tenants who want to develop their businesses in the area.

Denny hopes this culinary area can create a mutually supportive economic ecosystem between traditional market traders and culinary entrepreneurs.

"We're trying to activate the economy and ecosystem at Cijerah Market. We hope that visitors to the food market will also shop at the traditional market, so the entire ecosystem works and the economy keeps turning smoothly," he said.

Traditional markets operate from 3:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), particularly in the wet areas, until around 6:00 p.m. Meanwhile, Cijerah Food Market operates until 9:00 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) on weekdays and 10:00 p.m. on weekends.

Various activities, such as live music performances and watching football matches together, were also held to attract public visits.

Cijerah Cerah Market currently houses around 190 vendors selling various commodities. Vendors who have been operating at the market for years have also noticed the changes following the revitalization.

Going forward, Denny hopes that the improvement in facilities will be followed by an increase in public visits and support from all parties to maintain order around the market, including the arrangement of street vendors (PKL).

He invited the public, especially residents of West Bandung, Bandung City, and the surrounding areas, to shop and enjoy culinary delights at Cijerah Cerah Market.

"For residents looking to shop for daily necessities or culinary delights, please come here. There's a wide selection, from breakfast to dinner, and coffee is also available," he encouraged.

Traders Appreciate the Revitalization of Cijerah Market

Rudi, a vegetable trader who has been selling for around 12 years, assesses that market conditions are now much better than before.

He felt changes in terms of cleanliness, building maintenance, and comfort when selling.

"The market used to be less than ideal, but now it's great. While it used to have lots of leaks, now it's nice, clean, well-maintained, and organized. Shopping is also comfortable now," said Rudi.

Idan, a trader who has been selling at Cijerah Market for around 20 years, echoed this sentiment. He said the improved layout of the trading area and parking area provides comfort for both traders and shoppers.

"Now the place is nicer, nicer, and more comfortable for shoppers. Parking is also quite spacious. Hopefully, sales will continue to be busy and more customers will come," said Idan.
