PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) targets 140 trips for waste transportation to the Sarimukti TPA from an average of 171.82 trips. This target is projected to be completed in November 2024.

This is a solution to the condition of the Sarimukti TPA which has an impact on waste management in the city of Bandung.

Head of the Bandung City Environmental Service (DLH) Dudi Prayudi said that the current scheme that is possible is to reduce waste iteration from the regional level which is combined into the Work Area Unit (SWK). Citing data from the Bandung City DLH, the waste iteration in each SWK has a different amount, as follows:

1. SWK Bojonagara 35.88 rit/day.
2. SWK Cibeunying 51.89 rit/day.
3. SWK Tegallega 33.67 rit/day.
4. SWK Karees 36.41 rit/day.
5. SWK Cordoba 25.88 rit/day.
6. SWK Ubermanik 31.23 rit/day.

"We are trying to implement a reduction of up to 140 trips per day," said Dudi at the Independent Waste Management Optimization Meeting in the Region, Thursday (17/10/2024)

Assistant for Government and Public Welfare of the Bandung City Regional Secretariat, Asep Gufron, said that the commitment to reduce waste flow to the Sarimukti TPA has been established between the Bandung City Government and the West Java Provincial Government.

According to him, in the city of Bandung, the regional element is a strategic party in realizing the reduction of waste shipments to the Sarimukti TPA.

The Independent Waste Management Optimization Meeting in the Region aims to build commitment from regional officials (Sub-district Heads and Village Heads) regarding the performance of integrated waste management in 30 sub-districts.

From this activity, it is expected:
1. Regional officials can process waste using methods or approaches that are adapted to regional conditions;
2. Increase the optimization of maggot houses
3. Prevent the accumulation of garbage on protocol roads or residential areas;
4. Creating a commitment to waste management at the family level

"We need to supervise, try to form monitoring teams at points prone to illegal piles of garbage," he said.

Acting Mayor of Bandung A. Koswara encouraged further steps to be taken regarding waste management, namely the waste processing process itself.

Although the target set by the Bandung City Government is to reduce the flow to the TPA, Koswara invites all parties to look at a further breakthrough, namely the creation of Bandung as a zero waste city.

"The more important thing is the paradigm shift from throwing away waste to managing waste. So, what we need to think about is not just throwing away waste, but also managing waste," he said.

Seeing the success stories in the regions during the waste emergency around 2023, Koswara is optimistic that efforts to reduce the flow of waste shipments to the lowest point can be realized.

"It's definitely possible. There are already success stories, and 383 RW in Bandung City are already free of garbage," he said.
