PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government held a Ramadan Safari 1447 Hijriah activity at the Grand Mosque of Bandung, Saturday (17 Ramadan 1447 H).

The activity was attended by the Lengkong District community along with local government officials and community leaders.

On that occasion, Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan again reminded the public to strengthen the environmental awareness movement, especially in waste management and the use of green spaces in urban areas.

He stated that Bandung City produces around 1,500 tons of waste every day, while the available processing capacity only reaches around 300 tons per day.

"This means there are around 1,200 tons of waste that we have to reduce at the source, namely from households," he said.

To address these issues, the Bandung City Government continues to promote various environmental management programs, including the Kang Pisman (Reduce, Separate, Utilize) and Buruan Sae programs, which encourage urban farming activities.

Farhan also stated that both programs are now geared towards a circular economic system, where organic waste can be processed into compost to support agricultural activities within the community.

According to him, Ramadan can be a momentum to strengthen an environmentally friendly lifestyle which he calls the "Eco Ramadan" concept, namely an effort to carry out worship while preserving the environment.

"We must use this Ramadan as a momentum to develop an environmentally friendly lifestyle, starting from reducing waste, planting productive plants at home, and maintaining environmental cleanliness," he said.

He also reminded that the environmental carrying capacity of Bandung City, which has an area of around 170 square kilometers, is actually only able to accommodate around one million residents, while the number of residents living in this city is estimated to have reached more than two million people.

Therefore, Farhan urged the entire community to be more environmentally conscious so that Bandung remains comfortable and livable. (Bandung City Communications and Information Service/rka)
