PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government is preparing infrastructure, traffic engineering, and supporting access ahead of the reactivation of Husein Sastranegara Airport and the opening of two new flight routes starting in August (14/7/2026).

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said that all civil works to support airport operations had been completed during a Coffee Morning with reporters at the Bandung City Hall.

Farhan explained that the road resurfacing, airport entry and exit arrangements, and pick-up and drop-off areas are ready for use.

"All civil works have been completed, including access to the airport and the passenger pick-up and drop-off areas," Farhan said.

Management of the parking area and official transportation in the airport area will be regulated by Husein Sastranegara Air Force Base together with management partners.

Farhan revealed that the Bandung City Government is also preparing a regional branding concept at the departure and arrival terminals after receiving the opportunity from InJourney.

"This is a great opportunity to introduce Bandung to every passenger arriving or departing through Husein Airport," he said.

Farhan believes that the education, tourism, culinary, and shopping sectors are attractions that can encourage increased visits to the city of Bandung.

"Bandung has educational, tourism, culinary, and shopping attractions that are all attractions. Our job is to continue promoting all of this potential so that more people come to Bandung," he said.

Farhan ensured that the increase in tourist visits would not reduce the quality of public services to the community.

"Public services to Bandung residents remain a priority. We want residents to be good hosts because they also benefit from the development of the tourism and economic sectors," he said.

Head of the Bandung City Transportation Agency, Rasdian Setiadi, said coordination with the police, national road managers, and the provincial government had been carried out to ensure smooth access.

Rasdian stated that traffic engineering trials had been carried out (7/7/2026) to ensure smooth flow of vehicles to and from the airport.

"We have been coordinating from the start, including conducting a traffic engineering trial on July 7, 2026. The goal is to ensure smooth traffic flow to and from the airport when flight operations resume," Rasdian said.

Rasdian explained that vehicles entering through the main gate will use the left lane towards the parking area.

Vehicles that only transport passengers will be directed to turn around to the drop off area on the left side of the terminal.

"This engineering was created to ensure vehicle movement is more orderly and prevent queues at the airport entrance," he said.

The Bandung City Transportation Agency has also completed the improvement of street lighting leading to Husein Sastranegara Airport by replacing all mercury lamps with LED lamps.

"Thank God, the street lighting is 100 percent complete. All the lights are now LEDs, making access to the airport much brighter and more comfortable, especially at night," said Rasdian.

Rasdian added that the road marking updates had been completed, while the airport area canopy repairs were being completed by the Water Resources and Highways Agency.

Meanwhile, Wings Air Corporate Communications Strategic Danang Mandala Prihantoro confirmed that Lion Group will resume serving flights from Husein Sastranegara Airport.

Wings Air will open the Bandung–Bandar Lampung route starting (6/8/2026) three times a week using an ATR 72 aircraft with a capacity of 72 economy class seats.

The airline also opened a direct route Bandung–Palembang starting (7/8/2026).

Danang said the two routes were chosen based on the results of a feasibility study to meet the travel needs of the community.

"We have prepared this route to support tourism, business, education, and official travel between West Java and southern Sumatra," he said.

Passengers can also continue their journey from Lampung to Batam, as well as from Palembang to Pangkalpinang, Belitung, Batam, and Medan.

Lion Group, through Super Air Jet, is also preparing eight new routes to Medan, Padang, Pekanbaru, Batam, Pontianak, Balikpapan, Makassar, and Denpasar, which are still awaiting approval from aviation regulators.
