PORTALJABAR, DISTRICT. GARUT - The Garut Regency Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) in collaboration with the Garut Resort Police (Polres) succeeded in confiscating more than 8,400 bottles of liquor (miras) which were suspected to be distributed in Garut Regency.

The Regent of Garut, Rudy Gunawan, emphasized that this action was in accordance with Garut Regency Regional Regulation (Perda) Number 13 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Garut Regency Regional Regulation Number 2 of 2008 concerning Anti-Immoral Acts, which prohibits alcohol with an alcohol content above 0%. Security results showed that a number of liquors exceeded this limit, with some reaching more than 4.5%, and some with unmeasurable alcohol.

"We will carry out an investigation process, then we will take it to the prosecutor's office and court (because) it violated the Regional Regulation," said the Regent of Garut after leading the Morning Call at the Garut Regency Satpol PP, Thursday (23/11/2023).

The proceeds from this confiscation, if cashed, would reach IDR 300 million. The Regent of Garut emphasized his commitment to not provide space for the circulation of alcohol in Garut Regency, in order to make Garut Regency 0% for alcoholic beverages.

"It's not allowed, it doesn't provide opportunities, there's no space, in Garut it's 0%, that's why night entertainment, under any pretext never mind, it will be disturbed anyway, the community has a legal basis for disturbing them, while the business must be conducive, that's why entertainment "Don't go to Garut under any pretext at night," he said.

Head of the Garut Regency Satpol PP, Usep Basuki Eko, explained that the discovery of this alcohol began with a Satpol PP patrol that saw suspicious activity in two shops in the city. After inspection, it turned out that the items dropped off were alcohol. The patrol team immediately involved the investigation team for further investigation.

"At that time, the report was made directly to me and I immediately sent a team from PPNS enforcement to the field, then I was also together with the police at that time, together with the police directly to the field, because coincidentally yesterday when I received the report, we were together- "Same with a team from the police, there is security at the Regional Secretariat, because someone is holding an audience," he said.

His party succeeded in securing evidence and interrogating the truck driver who was transporting the alcohol. Even though the witness stated that the alcohol would be distributed outside the area, the evidence was still being secured because the crime scene was in Garut Regency.

Usep Basuki Eko said that the shop owner had not been arrested, and the investigation was still developing based on the driver's statement. The maximum fine for violators of this Regional Regulation is 50 million rupiah or imprisonment for 6 months, however, Eko hopes that heavier penalties will be given in the future to provide a deterrent effect, especially for recidivists.
