PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Seventy-five public junior high schools (SMP) in Bandung City will participate in the 2026 Mathematics Quiz Competition (LCCM), divided into several educational unit zones. These include junior high schools in the West, East, West Bandung, North, and South Bandung regions, which will be held from October to November.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that the 2026 LCCM was held to increase students' interest and mathematical abilities. Furthermore, it also served as a reflection of the average scores of junior high school students in Bandung in 2026.

"We hope that this activity will make mathematics a more interesting and enjoyable subject, and also serve as a means to develop reasoning, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills for students in Bandung City," said Farhan in Bandung, Tuesday (13/10/2026).

Farhan explained that the LCCM activities are still part of the series of events commemorating Bandung's 216th anniversary. He hopes that the Bandung Utama spirit can be part of a collective movement to produce students in Bandung who excel in academics, possess a spirit of achievement, and are ready to face future challenges.

"If TKA provides an overview of academic achievement and the need to strengthen academic skills, then LCCM can be a practice space to hone skills through interactive and competitive activities," explained Farhan.

In addition, he continued, Bandung City as one of the centers of education in West Java has great potential to develop academic culture and student achievement.

The synergy between the Bandung City Education Office, Mathematics MGMP, Principals, Teachers, and students needs to be continuously strengthened through programs that encourage improvements in the quality of learning.

For your information, LCCM 2026 was attended by 75 public junior high schools in Bandung City and was held in three stages. The preliminary round for the East Bandung Region took place on October 13–15, 2026, at SMP Negeri 17 Bandung, with 20 schools participating.

The preliminary rounds for the West, North, and South Bandung Regions took place simultaneously on October 21–23, 2026, at SMP Negeri 9 Bandung, SMP Negeri 2 Bandung, and SMP Negeri 43 Bandung. Eighteen schools participated in the West Region, 18 in the North Region, and 17 in the South Region.

Furthermore, the semifinal and final rounds at the Bandung City level are planned to be held on November 5, 2026, with the venue still under consideration.

The semifinal round will be attended by nine schools, namely the two best schools from each region and one school with the highest score among the schools that have not yet become regional champions.

The top three schools from the semifinals will then compete in the final to determine the Bandung City champion. (Bandung City Communications and Information Office/rka)
