PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The West Java Provincial Government, in collaboration with the Financial Services Authority (OJK), is encouraging egg-laying chicken farmers to upgrade their economic standing. This is done by launching the EGG (Endog Jabar Go Global) initiative, which will expand access to financing while improving financial literacy and the quality of farmer business management.

West Java Regional Secretary Herman Suryatman stated that the development of laying hens has significant potential to boost the local economy, both through industrial and household-scale farming. In addition to supporting food security, this business can increase income and reduce residents' expenses.

"Chickens, both meat and egg-laying, have great potential. Not all of them need to be consumed; some can be sold to increase income," Herman said at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in Implementing the Development of Superior Egg-Laying Chicken Commodities through Financial Inclusion Services in West Java Province. The event was held at the West Java Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) in Bandung City on Friday (September 25, 2026).

Regional Secretary Herman also emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and banks to expand access to financing while improving financial literacy and the quality of livestock business management.

"So, we hope the livestock sector, especially laying hens, can be a lever. It's simple, but the impact is extraordinary. Not just on an industrial scale, but also on a household scale," he said.

In terms of financing, Herman revealed that the potential credit for the livestock sector in West Java reaches Rp565 billion. However, the realized credit ceiling is only around Rp81 billion, with an outstanding amount of around Rp49 billion.

Meanwhile, the Head of the West Java Financial Services Authority (OJK), Darwisman, stated that this regional economic development program involves 4,665 egg-laying chicken farmers spread across 21 livestock centers in West Java.

"This program is expected to have a real impact on the economy and not just stop at increasing financial access," said Darwisman.

Darwisman stated that developing a chicken egg-laying ecosystem in West Java is expected to provide several benefits, one of which is increased farmer income. According to OJK data, a farmer with a population of around 2,000 chickens can earn around Rp34.88 million per month.

"Secondly, it will boost farmers' income. We estimate that 2,000 chickens will generate a monthly income of Rp34.88 million," he said.

The event also saw the official export of 7,000 day-old chicks (DOC) and 6.3 tons of processed products to Timor-Leste, valued at approximately US$22,000. In addition to Timor-Leste, the DOCs are planned for export to Myanmar, Brunei Darussalam, and Malaysia.

The program also aims to build an egg-laying chicken business ecosystem in 18 districts and 9 cities in West Java through collaboration between local governments, the financial services industry, breeders, exporters, academics, and other stakeholders.
