PORTALJABAR, DISTRICT. BANDUNG - West Java Province Regional Secretary Herman Suryatman inspected the condition of the Citarum River, specifically in the Bojongsoang area, Sector 6 Citarum Harum, Bandung Regency, Sunday (9/6/2024).

He appreciated that at this point the environment was well maintained. The river water is clear and free from rubbish and waste.

Herman estimates that the Water Quality Index in Sector 6 will be around 60.

"We cross-checked the conditions around Baleendah and Bojongsoang or Sector 6. The changes are extraordinary, even looking at the water conditions here, it seems like it is more than 50.78, maybe it has reached 60 points," he said.

Apart from that, Herman assesses that the awareness of the people in the Bojongsoang and Baleendah areas in protecting the environment has become better.

Even though the population in this area is very dense with various dynamics. The population of Baleendah District is around 250,000 people and Bojongsoang District 100,000 people.

"This is proof that even though the challenges are very complex, household waste, domestic waste, factory waste and others can actually be decomposed as we have seen," he said.

According to Herman, this cannot be separated from the role of the Citarum Harum Task Force which is tasked with Sector 6 and the active participation of the community.

He hopes that the good condition of the Citarum watershed in Sector 6 can continue to be maintained, especially by community behavior.

The reason is, after Presidential Decree Number 15 of 2018 ends, to be precise in December 2025, the tasks of the task force will end.

"I just gave homework on how community participation, which is already good, can be increased again so that in December 2025, coinciding with the completion of the tasks of the task force, we can continue with what is already good to protect the environment in the Citarum watershed area without another task force," he said.

Since 2018, the Citarum Harum Task Force in Sector 6 has been tasked with handling rubbish, household waste, industrial waste, space utilization, creating integrated TPS, education and community empowerment.

When visiting the Sector 6 Main Command Post, Herman gave directions to the task force, community leaders and regional leaders such as RT, RW, village heads, village heads and sub-district heads.

He also took the time to buy 10 multi-purpose shelving units made from waste processed by the local community.

"This is the practice of a circular economy. Everything can be productive, waste can be profitable if there is enthusiasm and effort," said Herman.
