PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Regional Secretary of West Java Province, Herman Suryatman, accompanied the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), Maruarar Sirait, to inspect the land of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) near the Kiaracondong Bridge Development Center, Bandung, which will become a Vertical Housing (Transit Oriented Development/TOD) for Low-Income Communities.
The review, which was also attended by PT KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin, was an initial step to map a number of KAI assets in Bandung that are planned to be developed into integrated vertical residential areas (TOD) specifically for Low-Income Communities (MBR).
Minister of PKP Maruarar Sirait explained that the government is currently developing plans through a joint team involving the Ministry of PKP, KAI, Danantara, and the Bandung City Government. This team is tasked with reviewing technical and spatial planning aspects before construction begins.
"We work for the benefit of the people. Through careful planning, this land will be prepared for low-income housing, providing them with decent and affordable housing. On April 25, the team will present the basic concept, including how healthcare, education, and places of worship will be integrated into the area," said Maruarar on Monday (April 6, 2026).
He also mentioned initial support from the private sector. "There has been an initial commitment to build 1,000 housing units through a social responsibility scheme. The locations will be reviewed with KAI to ensure they align with their asset development," he said.
KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that land use around the station is expected to have an economic impact on low-income communities. With the TOD concept, residents will have direct access to affordable and fast rail transportation.
"A number of KAI plots in Bandung are projected to be developed into vertical housing. Our main focus is to provide benefits to low-income communities," said Bobby.
"If residents live in a TOD area like Kiaracondong, they will be much more efficient in their transportation expenses because train access is right in their neighborhood," he added.
Bobby added that the development plan for this area will also accommodate public spaces and micro-business areas to support the local economy. This inventory is part of the optimization of state assets, while prioritizing train operational safety and improving the living standards of the surrounding community.
This inspection of the Kiaracondong Bridge Development Center will form the basis for developing more targeted, orderly, and inclusive regional development plans for all levels of society. (Parno)
