PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - West Java Regional Secretary (Sekda) Herman Suryatman emphasized the commitment of the West Java Provincial Government to improving the welfare and quality of youth.

He aims to significantly reduce the youth unemployment rate by 2029. He also aims to increase the education level of young people. These targets are considered crucial to realizing the vision of Special West Java.

This was conveyed by Herman when opening the 16th Regional Conference (Musda) of the West Java Youth/KNPI in 2026 at the Grand Asrilia Hotel Convention & Restaurant, Bandung City, Tuesday (18/8/2026).

"Improving the quality of youth must be a serious concern, especially in the aspects of education and welfare," said Herman.

According to him, achieving this target requires collaboration between the government and youth organizations, including the West Java Indonesian National Youth Committee (KNPI).

Herman hopes that the West Java KNPI Musda forum can become a space to formulate strategic steps while strengthening the role of youth in accelerating the realization of Special West Java.

On the occasion, Herman also highlighted the state of youth development in West Java. He stated that West Java's Youth Development Index (IPP) currently stands at 62.96.

According to him, this figure still needs to be significantly increased. Herman even challenged West Java's IPP to reach at least 90 by 2029 as part of the effort to realize a Special West Java status.

He reminded that youth enthusiasm and activities should not only be seen from the organizational side, but also reflected in the quality of life of the youth.

He added that the government cannot work alone to improve youth development. The role of the community and youth organizations, including the Indonesian National Youth Committee (KNPI), is crucial in achieving these development targets.

"A government without the people, a government without youth, is nothing," said Herman.

Therefore, Herman encouraged the future leadership of the West Java KNPI to boldly step out of their comfort zone and build the organization in a competitive environment. He hoped the new management would be able to play a strategic role in improving the quality of West Java's youth.

"The next KNPI leadership must be brave enough to take risks," he concluded.
