PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, confirmed that the regulation of street vendors (PKL) in Bandung City will continue to be expanded to various strategic points throughout 2026. After the Sukajadi and Cicadas areas were declared free of PKL, the regulation is now continuing to a number of other roads.

Farhan stated that the successful redevelopment of Sukajadi was the result of collaboration between the Bandung City Government and the West Java Provincial Government. He ensured that the area is now more orderly and safe for the public.

"Thank God, Sukajadi is now free of street vendors and safe. This is the result of collaboration, including support from the Governor," he said on Friday (May 22, 2026).

The Bandung City Government will also regulate several other areas, including the area around the Struggle Monument, Jalan Pati Ukur, Jalan Hasanuddin, Jalan Bagusrangin, and Jalan Teuku Umar. The " Gelap Nyawang" (black area) around the ITB campus is also on the next development agenda.

According to Farhan, the main principle of street vendor management is to restore the function of public spaces, especially sidewalks, so that they are not used permanently or semi-permanently by traders.

"Street vendors are allowed to sell, but they cannot be permanent or semi-permanent in public spaces. That's what we're currently correcting," he stressed.

He added that street vendors are still allowed to trade, but must comply with more orderly regulations. One way is to encourage established vendors to sell within the market.

As in the Jalan Sederhana area, street vendors are currently being directed to enter the Simple Market because there is still empty space that can be utilized optimally.

In addition to relocation, the Bandung City Government will also regulate the operating hours of street vendors in certain locations where they are permitted to sell. These regulations will be adjusted through agreements at the regional level.

"If it's permanent, there will be rental and maintenance costs. That can be a problem. So the concept is to come, install, sell, dismantle, and then clean," he explained.

He targets completion of the entire street vendor (PKL) restructuring process in Bandung City by 2026. However, he acknowledged that several areas remain challenging, such as Astanaanyar, Tegalega, and the Sudirman and Ciroyom areas. (Bandung City Communications and Information Office/rka)
