PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The commemoration of International Autism Day is an important momentum for the Bandung City Government (Pemkot) to strengthen its commitment to inclusivity.

This was stated by the Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, when attending the Tiento Run 2026 Press Conference at D'Botanica, Thursday (2/4/2026).

Farhan stated that the main effort currently is to expand outreach and increase public awareness about autism.

According to him, public understanding of autism has undergone significant change. While in the 1990s, autism was often viewed solely as a developmental disorder in children, individuals on the autism spectrum have now grown into adults and require broader support.

"The issue now is not just therapy and education, but how autistic individuals can become independent and openly accepted by society," said Farhan.

He reminded us that inclusivity is not just a concept but must be realized in everyday life.

The Bandung City Government, Farhan continued, is committed to opening up as much space as possible for individuals on the autism spectrum to develop, participate, and gain equal opportunities.

These efforts include increasing access to education, employment opportunities and strengthening a friendly and non-discriminatory social environment.

In addition, Farhan also invited all elements of society to play a role in creating a more inclusive city.
