PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) continues to accelerate inflation control efforts through the implementation of the Affordable Food Movement (GPM). This time, the program was launched in Cibeunying Kidul District on Thursday (September 17, 2026), providing various basic necessities to the public at lower prices than market prices.

Head of the Bandung City Food Security and Agriculture Agency (DKPP), Gin Gin Ginanjar, said that the Affordable Food Movement is a concrete step taken by the government to maintain the stability of food supply and prices while increasing the public's affordability of basic necessities.

"Through this initiative, people can obtain food at more affordable prices. Meanwhile, the government is also working to maintain price stability and food supply to keep inflation under control," said Gin Gin.

Based on the latest data, inflation in Bandung City in August 2026 was recorded at 0.32 percent month-to-month and 3.27 percent year-on-year, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) reaching 111.50.

Several food commodities, such as broiler chicken, red chilies, sweet corn, green beans, rice, and papaya, were the main contributors to inflation. Meanwhile, shallots, garlic, tomatoes, tilapia, dragon fruit, oranges, and cooking oil contributed to deflation.

According to Gin Gin, GPM is part of the Bandung City Government's ongoing efforts to support the national Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program initiated by the National Food Agency.

"This activity also serves as a means of shortening the food distribution chain from producers directly to the community. We involve farmers, livestock breeders, farmer groups, farmer group associations, distributors, the State Logistics Agency (Bulog), ID Food, and other food business actors," he said.

During this program, the public can purchase various food commodities at more affordable prices. These include SPHP medium-grade rice, sold for Rp 60,000 per 5 kilograms, granulated sugar for Rp 16,000 per kilogram, garlic for Rp 30,000 per kilogram, shallots for Rp 26,000 per kilogram, and cooking oil for Rp 15,500 per liter.

In addition, broiler chicken is also available at a price of IDR 36,000 to IDR 37,000 per kilogram, broiler chicken eggs at IDR 23,000 per kilogram, various chilies at a price of IDR 48,000 to IDR 60,000 per kilogram, as well as various fresh vegetables sold for IDR 5,000.

Gin Gin explained that the Affordable Food Movement focuses not only on selling affordable food but also on encouraging community food self-sufficiency. Therefore, this activity also included urban farming education and the distribution of free fish seeds to 200 residents.

"We want people to not only be consumers, but also have the ability to meet some of their food needs independently through land use and simple cultivation methods in their respective environments," he said.

The event was also enlivened by a bazaar and exhibition involving farmer partners, food business actors, and Buruan SAE, fostered by the Bandung City DKPP, which displayed various superior fresh and processed local food products.

The Bandung City Government is targeting 34 Affordable Food Movement events throughout 2026, with support from the West Java Provincial Food and Agriculture Office (DKPP) and Bank Indonesia. As of mid-September, 26 similar events had been held in various districts across Bandung City.

"Until the end of the year, this activity will continue to be implemented according to needs and food price developments on the ground. Several sub-districts will still be implementing GPM as part of the ongoing price intervention," said Gin Gin.

The sub-districts that will continue to be locations for the Cheap Food Movement until the end of the year include Bojongloa Kidul, Cinambo, Sukasari, Babakan Ciparay, Astanaanyar, and Lengkong.

Based on the results of the previous implementation evaluation, the Cheap Food Movement has proven to be able to help reduce the prices of a number of strategic commodities at the consumer level, increase people's purchasing power, and maintain the availability of food supplies in the implementation areas.
