PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung City Government Utilizes Technology to Process Five Tons of Waste per Hour in Ciwastra

Bandung City — The waste destruction technology at the Ciwastra Waste Processing Site (TPS) has a processing capacity of up to five tons per hour.

This technology was developed on the initiative of the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (KSAD) and was deployed to support waste management in the city of Bandung.

This was conveyed by the Head of the Testing Sub-Department of the Army Research and Development Agency, Yayat Priatna, when accompanying the visit of the Army Chief of Staff, General Maruli Simanjuntak, to the Ciwastra TPS, Friday (4/9/2026).

The visit was also attended by the Regional Secretary of Bandung City, Iskandar Zulkarnain, the ranks of the Environmental Service (DLH), and regional elements.

Yayat explained that the capacity of five tons per hour is achieved through two fillings with a total load of around five tons.

"This machine does have a capacity of five tons per hour, but it does so in two batches. The first batch is about three tons, then after 30 to 35 minutes, it's refilled with another two tons," Yayat said.

The development of this tool was previously directed by the Army Chief of Staff to achieve a capacity of more than five tons per hour, while the current capacity reaches five tons.

This technology utilizes used oil as a fuel, requiring around two to three liters per hour of operation.

The need for water for operations is relatively large, so the Ciwastra TPS location has been equipped with a well as a supporting source for the use of this technology.

The heat generated from waste destruction is used to power a steam engine system that replaces the electricity requirements for conveyors and sorting equipment.

Smoke control uses a dry scrubber system supported by two large water tanks and a water tube on the stove.

Emission aspects have also been tested by PT Sucofindo with the facilitation of the Bandung City Environmental Service to ensure operational feasibility.

"The emission test has also been carried out, tested by PT Sucofindo, facilitated by the Environment Agency, and the results show that this device passed the emission test," he said.

In daily operations, Bandung City DLH personnel have been involved in using the tool under supervision from Dislitbangad personnel.

The Bandung City Environmental Agency (DLH) has also been able to handle minor repairs, while larger-scale repairs are handled again by the Dislitbangad team.

The Army Chief of Staff's visit provided an opportunity to directly observe the development of waste processing technology utilization with the Bandung City Government and DLH officials.

The use of this five-ton-per-hour capacity technology is expected to help manage waste while supporting operational energy efficiency in the city of Bandung.
