PORTALJABAR, BEKASI REGENCY - The Bekasi Regency Government is accelerating the normalization of the Kalen Kendal Secondary Canal (SS) to maintain irrigation of agricultural land.

Acting Regent of Bekasi Asep Surya Atmaja inspected the condition of the canal in Sukamaju Village, Tambelang District (31/8/2026).

The approximately 7.5 kilometer long channel has been normalized independently by farmers to reach approximately 3.5 kilometers.

Asep appreciated the farmers' mutual cooperation and ensured that the local government would follow up on their aspirations through cross-agency coordination.

"If people come and report a problem, we'll come and see it for ourselves. If there's a problem, we'll go there," Asep said while inspecting the site.

Channel normalization is important because the Kendal River is one of the irrigation sources for agricultural land in the northern region of Bekasi Regency.

Asep said that around four kilometers of the canal still needed normalization so that irrigation could reach all parts of the canal.

"There's about four kilometers left. We'll coordinate with the PJT, BWS, the Agriculture Agency, and the Highways Department," he said.

The Bekasi Regency Government will coordinate with the Water Services Corporation (PJT), the River Basin Center (BBWS), the Agriculture Service, and the Water Resources, Highways and Construction Services (SDA-BMBK).

Coordination meetings are also being held to discuss the operational needs of heavy equipment, including fuel availability for operators.

"God willing, tomorrow we will hold a meeting regarding the operator with several parties," he said.

Asep confirmed that the Bekasi Regency Government supports the acceleration of the work because the channel, which is approximately three meters wide, can still be normalized with inter-agency support.

"God willing, the Highways Department is ready. The Agriculture Department is also ready. We will coordinate together to resolve this," he said.
