PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The availability of Halal, Safe, and Healthy (KHAS) Culinary Zones in West Java has increased with the establishment of three new zones: the Gedung Sate Canteen, the Canteen of State Islamic Senior High School (MAN) 1 Bandung City, and the culinary area of the At-Thohir Mosque in Depok. This brings the total number of KHAS Zones in West Java to 12.

West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan stated that the establishment of the SPECIAL Zone is an effort to provide culinary delights that meet halal, safe, and healthy standards. This effort begins with the selection of ingredients, processing, and presentation to consumers.

To make this happen, MSMEs in the SPECIAL Zone area must meet certification requirements, namely halal certification and safe and healthy certification.

"The SPECIAL Zone is not just a halal label. The SPECIAL Zone is a new standard for ensuring halal products, safe food, healthy processing, a clean environment, good service, and empowered business actors," said Erwan at the inauguration of the SPECIAL Zone at the Gedung Sate Canteen on Monday (August 31, 2026).

SPECIAL Zones can be applied in schools, offices, madrasas, Islamic boarding schools, shopping centers and public spaces.

The Gedung Sate cafeteria represents the SPECIAL Zone in office buildings. Meanwhile, the MAN 1 Bandung cafeteria represents the SPECIAL Zone in educational areas. The culinary area of the At-Thohir Mosque in Depok represents the SPECIAL Zone in Muslim-friendly tourist destinations.

Erwan continued, saying that the SPECIAL Zone is expected to boost consumer confidence and support Muslim-friendly tourism.

The SPECIAL Zone is the result of collaboration between the National Committee for Sharia Economics and Finance, the Ministry of Health, the Halal Product Guarantee Agency, and local governments.
