PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Acting (Pj.) Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin visited the location of the tornado disaster on Wednesday (21/2/2024). Reviews are carried out to ensure treatment is running optimally.

Bey said that people injured by the tornado had received treatment at the hospital. He also confirmed that there were no casualties due to the disaster.

"At the Kahatex Clinic there were 19 patients with minor injuries. Then, I went to the Family Welfare Hospital, 10 (people) had minor injuries. All of them received outpatient treatment. The West Java Health Office is currently collecting data on the number of patients," said Bey.

Apart from checking the treatment of injured residents, Bey inspected damaged housing. According to him, the joint team and the community worked together to clean up the debris from house roofs and fallen trees.

"We went to BRIMOB Headquarters, we went to a residential area. Many houses had flying roofs, there were no roofs, there were steel frames of houses that had been built flying," he said.

"This is a disaster, don't imagine the house collapsing or being hit by a landslide. This is house material that can fly to other areas. However, I see that conditions are starting to become conducive," he added.

Bey also asked the public to remain alert to natural disasters. "The public must be alert. Even though residents at the location said the weather was very hot, it suddenly started raining. This means we must remain alert. Don't let your guard down," he said.

Meanwhile, the West Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has sent a team to the location of the incident to provide rapid assessment assistance to the affected locations.

West Java BPBD Young Expert Public Relations Officer Hadi Rahmat said that the Sumedang Regency BPBD is currently carrying out an assessment regarding the tornado disaster that occurred in a number of areas in Sumedang Regency, especially in Jatinangor District.

According to Hadi, regarding the amount of damage and victims, the Sumedang Regency BPBD is currently still carrying out a rapid assessment stage.
