PORTALJABAR, BEKASI REGENCY - Acting Regent of Bekasi, Asep Surya Atmaja, together with Regional Secretary, Endin Samsudin, directly inspected the location of the Ramayana Cikarang Market fire on Sunday (17/5/2026) evening.

During his visit, he confirmed that the Bekasi Regency Government would immediately prepare steps to organize the market area comprehensively.

Asep Surya Atmaja stated that the current market conditions are considered chaotic and require serious improvements so that traders and the public can carry out their activities more comfortably and safely.

"We won't just sit idly by. Vendors often complain that their space is getting cramped. If we keep seeing conditions like this, it won't end," he said while inspecting the fire site.

He said the local government would form a team to determine the best course of action for the market building, which had experienced several fires.

"God willing, this week, on Tuesday, I will invite all relevant departments under the Regional Secretary to conduct an assessment. After that, we will decide on the next steps as soon as possible," he said.

According to him, one of the options being considered is carrying out a total renovation or even demolition of the building if the assessment results indicate that the condition of the structure is at risk.

"If we really need to clean it up, we'll level it with the ground and rebuild it. But it all depends on the assessment results," he stressed.

Asep also revealed the grand concept the Bekasi Regency Government is developing for the market area. He aims to create the largest traditional market in Java with a modern concept, located on 2.6 hectares of land.

"Later, we'll create clusters, with fish in one area, vegetables in another, and fruit in a separate area. It can be more organized and comfortable," he explained.

In addition, the regional government is also considering budgeting through the Regional Budget to support market revitalization if it is deemed financially feasible for the region.

He asked traders to be patient because the government is currently considering the best solution so that traders can get a decent place to sell and buyers can feel comfortable while shopping.

"I came from Bandung late at night after the event with the Governor because I wanted to see the conditions here firsthand. If it really needs to be tidied up, we'll do it as quickly as possible," he said.

Asep added that the Ramayana Market in Cikarang has reportedly experienced fire six times. Therefore, the government will be very careful before deciding whether to maintain or demolish the existing building.

"If the assessment results show the building is still sound, we will certainly consider renovating it. However, if it poses a risk, regulatory action must be taken, as this also involves regional assets," he emphasized. (Bekasi Regency Communications and Information Office/rka)
