PORTALJABAR, DISTRICT. SUKABUMI - Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin inspected the location of the landslide disaster in Cibatu Hilir Village, Sekarwangi Village, Cibadak District, Sukabumi Regency, Monday (29/01/2024).

Bey said that the landslide that occurred on Wednesday (24/1/2024) damaged dozens of houses and displaced hundreds of residents.

There were 13 houses buried with a total of 54 people homeless. The number of refugees is from 16 families, consisting of three children under five, 12 children, 36 adults, 2 elderly people, 1 person with a disability.

"The handling of refugees is very good. Refugees with high blood pressure and so on continue to be cared for," said Bey Machmudin.

Currently, the West Java Provincial Government and the Sukabumi Regency Regional Government will think about the right solution to determine a place to live for the refugees by waiting for the results of an assessment of the condition of the land at the disaster location from the Volcanology Center for Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) team.

"The team (carried out) an assessment of the condition of the land at the location. We, together with the Sukabumi Regency Government and the West Java BPBD, are looking for a solution as to how our brother's house lives. Is it being relocated or waiting for the results from the Geological Agency, can it still be occupied," said Bey.

Bey prohibited refugees from taking items that had been buried in the ground because there was still the potential for further landslides.

"If it is buried, it will be difficult and dangerous, and we are trying not to take things that are buried yet," he said.

Bey asked the Deputy Regent of Sukabumi to ensure that children do not miss out on studying even though they are still living in refugee camps. He said that the Education Department would provide equipment for school.

"I ask the Deputy Regent, children must go to school even if they don't have uniforms. They are forced to go to school without uniforms, but God willing, the Sukabumi Regency Education Office will provide uniforms, shoes and so on," concluded Bey.
