PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) of the Republic of Indonesia Bima Arya Sugiarto directly reviewed activities at Pasar Baru, Bandung City ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1446 Hijri, Saturday (22/3/2025).
During his visit, he saw the wheels of the economy moving dynamically, with thousands of traders and tens of thousands of visitors crowding one of the largest markets in the city of Bandung.
According to Bima, based on the management data, currently there are around 3,000 traders operating in Pasar Baru. Meanwhile, the number of visitors is estimated to reach 20,000 people per day. This figure shows that Pasar Baru remains the center of the community's economy, especially approaching the Lebaran moment.
"Today, eight days before Eid, the movement in Pasar Baru Bandung is approaching its peak. In the next one to two days, the number of visitors is expected to reach its highest point before they finally start going home," he said.
Although the number of visitors this year is lower compared to previous years, Pasar Baru remains the main destination for people to shop for Eid necessities.
Bima assessed that this decline could be caused by various factors, one of which is the increasing trend of online shopping.
"However, Pasar Baru remains the heart of the Bandung City economy and plays a major role in the livelihoods of many residents," he said.
The Pasar Baru area in Bandung City has long been known as a trading center that provides various needs, from clothing, textiles, to household equipment.
Its existence not only drives the local economy but also becomes a favorite shopping destination for residents of Bandung City and its surroundings.
In addition to monitoring Pasar Baru, Bima Arya accompanied by the Mayor of Bandung Muhammad Farhan, Acting Regional Secretary of Bandung City Iskandar Zulkarnain, along with the ranks of the Bandung City Government Regional Apparatus also monitored Kosambi Market. This was done as an effort to monitor food price movements ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
Based on the monitoring results, Bima said that the availability and price of food in Bandung City are in a safe position. In addition, he emphasized that the stock of cooking oil in Bandung is still sufficient, and there were no indications of adulteration or other fraudulent practices.
"In addition, people's purchasing power is still maintained, which indicates good economic conditions," he said.
Next, Bima Arya and the Bandung City Government staff reviewed the readiness for homecoming at the Leuwipanjang Terminal.
