PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Bandung City Transportation Agency (Dishub) is manually regulating traffic at five intersections affected by the theft of traffic light equipment to ensure the safety of residents.
Missing traffic light units require reassembly before being installed and operated again at the affected intersection.
Head of the Bandung City Transportation Agency, Rasdian Setiadi, said the repair and assembly process for the device is targeted to be completed within a week.
"It's still in process. It needs to be reassembled. It will take us at least a week to reassemble it," said Rasdian at Bandung City Hall on October 1, 2026.
Five traffic light points were affected by theft spread across several locations, including the PT INTI area and Simpang Patung Ikan.
Device theft also occurred on Jalan Pungkur and the Tamblong-Naripan and Puteran Sunda intersections in Bandung City.
The Bandung City Transportation Agency reported the theft to the police so that it can be handled according to legal provisions.
"We have filed a complaint with the police. Hopefully, they will follow up on it," said Rasdian.
While repairs are underway, Operational Control (Dalop) officers manually control vehicles, especially during heavy traffic.
"For those arriving soon, we'll have to use manual arrangements, using human resources. The morning rush hour is being managed by the Operations Division, and there will be officers there," Rasdian explained.
Manual control is necessary to prevent vehicles from entering the intersection simultaneously without adequate control.
"Actually, there's no need to hold it like that, because this is for safety," said Rasdian.
Nighttime conditions are a concern because vehicles from four directions have the potential to overtake each other when traffic lights are not working.
"Especially at night, I'm worried if there are no traffic lights. Those coming from the north, south, east, and west will often get there first if there are no traffic lights," he said.
The Transportation Agency continues to expedite equipment repairs while maintaining manual settings and officer monitoring to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Rasdian aims to have the traffic light units affected by the theft back in operation after the assembly process is completed within a week.
