PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The 2025 Ramadan and Eid moments show a significant increase in the use of electric vehicles in West Java.
PLN West Java Main Distribution Unit (UID) recorded 19,486 charging transactions at Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) during the period (17/3/2025) to (8/4/2025).
This number increased by 407 percent compared to the same period last year which recorded 4,782 transactions.
Electricity sales also increased sharply with a total of 430 megawatt hours (MWh), up 483 percent from the previous year which was only 89 MWh.
As much as 60 percent of electricity consumption comes from non-toll SPKLU, indicating that electric cars are increasingly being used for daily activities.
General Manager of PLN UID West Java, Tonny Bellamy, conveyed this trend as a positive signal for the growth of the electric vehicle ecosystem in the West Java region.
"The increase in transactions and electricity consumption shows that more and more people are choosing electric vehicles as a mode of transportation. PLN is ready to support the convenience of electric vehicle users by continuing to increase the number of SPKLUs, especially during important times such as the Eid homecoming," explained Tonny (4/15/2025).
Currently, PLN UID West Java operates SPKLU in 262 strategic locations with a total of 441 EV Charger units.
A total of 87 units are located in 27 toll road rest areas, while 354 units are spread across 235 non-toll road locations such as PLN offices, malls, and busy centers.
The toll road SPKLU with the highest transactions during Ramadan–Eid were the SPKLU Rest Area KM 57A Jakarta–Cikampek (689 transactions), KM 88 Cipularang (602 transactions), and KM 62B Jakarta–Cikampek (536 transactions).
The non-toll SPKLU with the highest transactions were recorded at PLN UP3 Bogor (1,047 transactions), BSPACE Grand Depok City (689 transactions), and PLN Surapati Bandung (642 transactions).
"Every year we continue to expand our charging network to support more comfortable, fast, and environmentally friendly travel. With the infrastructure that continues to develop, homecoming and daily mobility with EVs are becoming more enjoyable," added Tonny.
This increase shows that public awareness of the importance of a clean energy transition is increasing.
