PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Overhead cable installation in Bandung City continues to accelerate. As of Tuesday (October 6, 2026), 63 out of a total of 85 roads, including Jalan Astanaanyar, had been completed.

The cable lowering in the area was carried out by the Bandung City Communications and Information Service with the support of PT Bandung Infra Investama (BII).

Head of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Infrastructure Division of the Bandung City Communications and Information Service, Indra Arief Budyana, said that the Astanaanyar section was the 63rd road section to be handled in the series of overhead cable arrangements.

"So today we are opening the 63rd road section in Astanaanyar, from Sudirman to Tegalega Park. Approximately two kilometers," said Indra on Jalan Astanaanyar, Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

According to him, old cables were still found hanging in the air, including copper cables, coaxial cables, and slings that were outside the network.

This situation is considered a risk to public safety, especially since several network components are quite heavy.

"There are actually a lot of old cables up here, like those from 2015, and the slings are outside. This is very dangerous. There was an incident where someone died because the slings were still up there," he said.

Indra stated that there were coaxial cable accessories weighing over 10 kilograms. If they were to come loose and fall, these components could endanger road users.

Before the cables were lowered, the Bandung City Government had prepared ducting for the section. The ducting infrastructure was completed approximately three months ago.

"So, before this cut, the ducting was completed three months ago. The operator just had to pull the backbone cable first, and then it would be delivered to the customers," he explained.

However, the cable relocation process cannot be done haphazardly. Several networks form the backbone connecting Bandung with other regions.

Indra cited the example of a network from Astanaanyar that connects directly to Cimahi. Therefore, operators were asked to ensure the replacement network was connected before cutting the overhead cables.

"If it's not finished, the impact will be significant. Hopefully, the operators will have reconnected, especially the backbone to the POPs, so there won't be any further disruption," he said.

Diskominfo also anticipates service disruptions that customers may experience during the arrangement process.

Indra said that household customers usually take longer to get service restored than corporate customers.

"There are definitely a lot of people, especially residential or housing customers," he said.

For corporate customers, operators typically have backup networks and compensation plans. Some operators can also provide temporary modems to maintain internet access.

The arrangement of the overhead cables is part of the Bandung City Government's target to handle 85 road sections.

"We plan to build a total of 85 roads. There will probably be another 20. This month, we will have 13 roads," said Indra.

The current phase of cable lowering is scheduled to last until October 13, 2026. After a break of approximately two weeks, the cutting and arrangement process will resume on October 27, 2026. (Bandung City Communications and Information Office/rka)
