PORTALJABAR, GARUT REGENCY - Deputy Regent (Wabup) of Garut, Putri Karlina, directly reviewed the location of the handling of the pile of garbage that had gone viral on social media, precisely behind SMAN 26 Garut, Tegalpanjang Village, Sucinaraja District, some time ago.
During his visit, the Deputy Regent expressed his appreciation to the Sucinaraja District Government, Tegalpanjang Village Government, the Environmental Service (DLH), and the Public Works and Spatial Planning Service (PUPR) of Garut Regency for their quick response in handling the waste problem.
"I communicated with the Sub-district Head, communicated with the Village Head, there are indeed various factors that cause people to dump garbage in two places, one on village land, one on private land," said the Deputy Regent of Garut.
He explained that the piles of garbage that had previously disturbed the community had now been resolved through cross-sector collaboration, including transportation using heavy equipment and local residents working together to clean up the remaining garbage.
Furthermore, Putri Karlina encouraged a waste management movement starting from the village level.
He expressed his support for the Tegalpanjang Village Head's plan to involve the community in the waste sorting and processing process.
"Thank God, the Village Head already has a plan to work together with the community in managing and sorting waste so that it is not only thrown away, the waste must be able to have economic value," he said.
The Deputy Regent also responded to the viral garbage issue on social media.
According to him, this has become a trigger for the government to move faster and involve many parties.
"When the only one moving is one person, it is hard. So there must be an event that ultimately moves many people so that what we want can be achieved," he said.
He also appealed to the people of Garut to be more responsible for the waste they produce.
He reminded us that the waste problem has wide-ranging impacts, including the potential for natural disasters.
"People often complain about flooding, even though most flooding is caused by human actions. So, let's start sorting waste seriously from now on, don't just leave it as talk," he stressed.
For example, Putri Karlina said that she has made a habit of sorting waste at home, where organic waste is used as fertilizer or maggot feed which has economic value.
He also revealed that the Garut Regency Government has a special budget for waste management.
Eight villages that are considered to be the source of problems or have tourism potential will be a priority in the handling program.
"We inventory and the village that is the cause of the flood, for example. Plus one more that has tourism potential, such as Sayangheulang and Santolo, that is a priority," he concluded. (Garut Communication and Information Service/Fauziah)
