PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan launched the West Java Digital Waqf Movement 2026. Digitalization can make collecting cash waqf easier, faster, more accurate, more transparent, and reach more people, including the younger generation who are accustomed to using digital services.
Erwan hopes that West Java will not only be known as a region with significant waqf potential, but also become a province with the best digital waqf governance in Indonesia.
"I hope that in the future, West Java will not only be known as the region with the greatest waqf potential but also as the province with the best digital waqf governance in Indonesia," he said at Gedung Sate on Monday (August 31, 2026).
He said that waqf is a form of ongoing charity that has great potential as an instrument to support development, including in the education sector, Islamic boarding school economy, food security, clean water, and community empowerment.
According to Erwan, cash waqf is a potential sharia-compliant social financial instrument because it allows people to make waqf flexibly without having to own large assets such as land or buildings.
