PORTALJABAR, SUMEDANG REGENCY - Deputy Governor of West Java Erwan Setiawan said that Scouts have a role in building the character of the younger generation. Scouts can also stimulate the younger generation to spread benefits in society.

Erwan said this while attending the XVIII National Scout Spensa (GSS) Gebyar Activity in 2025, together with the Sumedang Scout Movement 17089-17090 at SMP Negeri 1 Sumedang, Sunday (23/2/2025).

"Scouts are the first step that determines the future of our younger siblings, whether they want to progress or not. At every opportunity, my older brother always reminds us to stay away from unnecessary socializing, stay away from drugs," said Erwan.

"Hang out with good people, play with people who can bring us to better changes. Stay away from toxic things, people who influence us to bad things," he added.

In the event, Erwan also advised the Scout members to follow every agenda well. The goal is to get useful knowledge and experience.

"I hope that the younger siblings will follow all these activities well so that it will further increase our faith, piety, discipline and love for our country," he said.

In addition, Erwan said that he, together with the Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi and the West Java Forkopimda, had committed to eradicating thuggery in West Java.

Therefore, the role of all levels of society is needed, including Scouts. One of them is by building the young generation to have competitiveness, as well as character.

"There should be no room for thugs in West Java, don't let them destroy our children," said Erwan Setiawan.

"Provide security and peace for the community, I welcome the presence of mass organizations and NGOs, but provide a good nuance for development in West Java," he added.
