PORTALJABAR, CIAMIS REGENCY - Deputy Governor of West Java Erwan Setiawan carried out the first harvest of the Cikawasen rice variety in the agricultural area of Kawasen Village, Banjarsari District, Ciamis Regency, Tuesday (18/3/2025).

Erwan assessed that the rice seed varieties that were starting to be developed in Ciamis Regency had very good quality.

"Today I participated in harvesting the Cikawasen rice variety. This variety must be able to become the pride of West Java," said Erwan.

He believes that if this variety continues to be developed, it can increase food self-sufficiency in West Java and nationally.

"Hopefully these seeds can increase food self-sufficiency in West Java and Indonesia," Erwan hoped.

He ensured that he would continue to monitor the Cikawasen rice variety, including paying attention to the welfare of its farmers. According to him, the success of superior varieties must be accompanied by the welfare of farmers.

"The government not only supports seed development but also ensures that farmers' welfare is maintained," he said.

After harvesting the Cikawasen rice variety, Erwan, together with residents and representatives from PT Agrinas Jabar, then carried out seeding of the variety. Erwan hopes that the seeds of this variety can continue to be planted in various regions so that they become superior for farmers in West Java.

"With fertile soil conditions and a supportive climate, Cikawasen could become a center for developing superior rice in West Java," he said.

Erwan wants the fertile soil and climate that supports agriculture in the Pasundan region to continue to be maintained and productive. Don't let it be damaged by irresponsible parties who convert land for personal interests.

"We all have to think about how to prevent the area of rice fields from decreasing due to land conversion or development," concluded Erwan.
