PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - More than 150 OSIS Chairmen from SMP, MTs, SMA, and SMK in Bandung City gathered at the Indonesian Education University (UPI), Saturday (12/4/2025).

They discussed leadership, exploring national values and spirituality with a number of important figures, one of whom was Deputy Mayor of Bandung Erwin.

On that occasion, Erwin said that leadership is not about style, but about responsibility, courage, and morals.

"You are future leaders. But remember, a leader is not just someone who can talk in front, but someone whose actions are beneficial to many people," he said on the sidelines of the Focus Group Discussion (FGD).

Erwin shared the “five awarenesses” that he believes every leader, especially a student, must have:

1. Religious awareness – as a foundation and moral fortress.
2. Awareness of seeking knowledge – don't be easily satisfied, keep learning.
3. Awareness of love for the homeland – respect the city and country where you grew up.
4. Awareness of living in society – sensitive to the surrounding environment.
5. Organizational awareness – because leaders are born from a process.

"Don't just be the OSIS Chair on paper. Be a role model. Invite your friends to be enthusiastic about studying, not skip class together," he said, greeted by laughter and applause from the participants.

Erwin also invited the OSIS Chairmen not to be afraid to speak up. He encouraged them to dare to discuss, criticize, and ask questions - as long as it is done with manners and ethics.

"Please criticize, but don't be rude. Respect your teachers. If you are polite and reasonable, that is a sign of a true leader," he said.

He touched on the importance of recognizing each person's leadership style, whether charismatic, autocratic, liberal, or democratic.

"It doesn't matter if you have your own style. The important thing is to bring benefits and know the direction," he said.

Not only discussing leadership strategies, Erwin also reminded the importance of spirituality. Success is not only about hard work, but also prayer and blessings.

"Don't forget to pray. If you want to be successful, maintain your relationship with God. Prayer, charity, and effort are one package," he said.

At the end of the session, Erwin did not forget to pray for the students present so that they would become the best generation who would not only be successful, but also have noble morals and always pray for their parents.

This FGD is a collaboration between the government, the Bandung City OSIS Forum, and Aposis (OSIS Leaders Alliance).

Chairman of the 3rd Generation OSIS Forum, Arien Khoirun Nisa, said that this activity was a momentum to build real cross-school collaboration.

"We believe young leaders have extraordinary potential. But that potential must be honed together, through spaces like this," he said.

UPI Professor Technology System Director Prof. Dr. Cepi Riyana also conveyed the importance of developing potential from an early age.

He reminded us that 87 percent of students currently do not fit into their majors, due to a lack of early recognition of interests and talents.

"If a child's potential is recognized early, the coaching process will be more targeted. This is the importance of collaboration between campuses, schools, and the government," he said.

This FGD is not just a discussion forum, but also a stage for the OSIS Chairmen to learn from each other, inspire each other, and prepare to take on real roles as future leaders.

It is hoped that this spirit of collaboration will be the first step towards a generation of Bandung students who are empowered, synergistic, and have a real impact for Bandung Utama.
