PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Deputy Mayor of Bandung, Erwin, monitored the implementation of the Educational Unit Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year at two elementary schools, namely SDN 184 Buahbatu and SDN 069 Cipamokolan Derwati, Wednesday (15/7/2026).
During his visit, Erwin assessed that MPLS should be a momentum to build students' character, not an arena for hazing or bullying.
The first visit took place at SDN 184 Buahbatu. Erwin, accompanied by the Head of the Bandung City Education Office, Asep Saeful Gufron, directly observed the implementation of the MPLS, greeted new students, provided motivation, and engaged in dialogue with teachers about the learning process at the school.
Erwin emphasized the importance of teachers as role models for students. Educational success is determined not only by academic ability but also by the development of morals and character.
"Teachers are figures to be looked up to and emulated. Therefore, teachers must be able to maintain noble morals and set a good example for their students. MPLS should be a means of strengthening togetherness, not a venue for hazing or bullying. Things like that should no longer occur in schools," said Erwin.
He invited all educators to guide students with full attention so that they are able to adapt to the school environment positively.
Erwin also conveyed a message to students to instill the spirit of seeking knowledge from an early age.
He quoted the message of the Prophet Muhammad SAW regarding the importance of being a person who loves knowledge.
"Children must grow up to be knowledgeable, learners of knowledge, good listeners of knowledge, and lovers of knowledge. If these four things are implemented, God willing, it will be a good foundation for their future," he said.
After reviewing SDN 184 Buahbatu, Erwin continued the monitoring agenda to SDN 069 Cipamokolan Derwati.
In front of the new students, Erwin encouraged them to take part in MPLS with joy and use it as a start to achieving achievements.
"Hopefully through this MPLS you will become intelligent children, not only academically intelligent, but also devout and devout, socially tough, able to adapt to the school environment, and have good morals," he said.
Not only to students, Erwin also expressed his appreciation to teachers who he considered to have a noble role in shaping the nation's next generation.
He invited educators to carry out their duties with full sincerity as a form of charity.
"Teaching is a very noble profession. Teach with the intention of worship and charity. Beneficial knowledge will continue to yield rewards, and when you successfully educate children to become pious and righteous individuals, it becomes an extraordinary investment in charity," he said.
In addition to giving a speech at the MPLS activity, the Deputy Mayor also inspected the school environment and took photos with teachers and students.
