PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Deputy Mayor of Bandung, Erwin, reviewed the condition of the drainage infrastructure in the Guruminda Complex, following complaints from residents regarding the flooding that often hits the area.
During his visit, Erwin ensured that flood management would be carried out more optimally and comprehensively. According to residents' reports, one of the main causes of flooding is the embankment that routinely breaks every year.
"It turns out there is a leaking embankment, and it breaks almost every year. God willing, we have repaired it now. We ensure the quality and quantity of the repairs are much better," said Erwin, Tuesday (4/15/2025).
Apart from the embankment problem, the drainage system in the complex is also in the spotlight.
"We have asked DPKP to immediately intervene. I am also ready to coordinate directly with the agency and the community to expedite handling," said Erwin.
Local residents also suggested that the water channel be repaired thoroughly, starting from deepening, widening, to installing grills. Full concreting is not recommended so that the water flow is not blocked and can flow easily during heavy rain.
For a short-term solution, the Bandung City Government has built retention ponds, the number of which continues to be added every year.
"We are also looking for additional locations. In addition, we asked DSDABM to place water pumps so that the floodwaters recede quickly," explained Erwin.
Meanwhile, for the long term, the Bandung City Government has begun to intensify reforestation in a number of areas, as an anticipatory step to reduce the risk of flooding due to reduced green space.
"We are not Superman or Batman, as the Mayor said. But we are trying our best," Erwin said.
He also gave examples of flood management in Gedebage and Rancasari. To handle the flood problem in this area, the city government conducted water diversion which was proven to accelerate the receding of the flood.
In addition to fixing the infrastructure, the Bandung City Government also provided direct assistance to residents affected by the flood.
"That day we also went down and provided assistance. Because our job is to provide the best for the citizens of Bandung City," said Erwin.
