PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor, Muhammad Farhan hopes that Bandung City residents will be smarter in being literate on social media. Because, social media has become a phenomenon in the digital era.
He conveyed this when attending the Ramadan Safari on Jalan Neptunus Timur I, Sekejati Village, Buahbatu District, Sunday (9/3/2025).
Farhan mentioned that criticism and insults against public service providers are increasingly rampant.
He quoted Surah Al-Humazah to remind him that accumulating wealth and bringing down other people with words is not a good thing.
"In the current context, we can see how there is an industry that thrives on insults, slander and humiliation. This is clearly stated in Surah Al-Humazah," he said.
"I often read various insults on social media, as do the deputy mayor, heads of regional apparatus organizations, and police and TNI officers. But I remind myself and all of us that working in public service always faces criticism. Consider it as a reward for us. Just let it be," he said.
He also revealed that since March 1, he no longer reads social media so that he can focus more on working for the community.
Farhan, who has only been Mayor of Bandung for a few weeks, expressed his gratitude for the mandate given to him.
He emphasized that in carrying out duties, one must be prepared to work without expecting praise.
"I saw firsthand how the troops from the Bandung City Government were extraordinary in working for the community," he said.
On the same occasion, Farhan said that the Bandung City Government continues to be alert to the impacts of extreme weather.
Tomorrow, he is scheduled to meet with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency to discuss weather conditions in Bandung which are currently still on emergency alert status.
"As of today, the posts in Pendopo and Nyland are still on standby 24 hours. We are facing rain that is called the 50-year rain. However, God willing, we will face it together," he concluded. (Bandung City Communication and Information Service/Fauziah).
