PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, plans to develop the Melon Tourism Village, a premium tourism destination that will present a unique experience for lovers of fresh fruit.

This idea emerged after he harvested hydroponically cultivated melons at the Bandung City Food Security and Agriculture Service (DKPP) Office, Thursday (27/3/2025).

"I saw that there was a very good hydroponic melon development. I thought about developing a Melon Tourism Village in a premium location," he said.

"There, visitors can enjoy high-quality melons at the cheapest price of Rp80,000 per kilogram. One melon can weigh up to 2 kg, so the price can be Rp160,000 to Rp200,000," he added.

According to him, this development is not just for fruit production, but is more focused on marketing strategies and tourism experiences.

"The goal is not mass production, but for marketing. Small production, but premium quality," he said.

Farhan also proposed potential locations such as Babakan Siliwangi, which is considered strategic as an urban tourism destination.

There, tourists can pay entrance tickets, enjoy the atmosphere of the melon garden, and buy fruit directly from the plantation.

With advanced hydroponic technology, just 100 square meters of land is enough to produce high-value premium melons.

"Production does not need to be large, five melons a day is enough. If one melon is priced at Rp200,000, that means it can produce Rp1 million per day. This is a premium tourism concept with great added value," he explained.

The Bandung City Government will prepare a special marketing strategy to ensure the success of this development. The Head of the Bandung City DKPP, Gin Gin Ginanjar, was tasked with finding the best location to realize this Melon Tourism Village in the near future.
