PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, said that investment potential in Bandung City could start from the higher education sector.

According to him, Bandung City is home to some of the best universities and even has a long history in the national academic world.

"The investment proportion in Bandung City can start from higher education, because Bandung is home to the best campuses in Indonesia," said Farhan when receiving the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Greece, Bebeb Abdul Kurnia Nugraha Djundjunan at the Bandung City Hall, Friday, October 17, 2025.

He gave the example of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), which is one of the oldest universities in Indonesia, and is even the alma mater of the first President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Besides ITB, there are also Padjadjaran University (Unpad), Indonesia Education University (UPI), Indonesian Institute of Arts and Culture (ISBI), and UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung which also contribute to the glory of Bandung's name in the world of education.

Bandung is also home to international campuses such as Deakin University (Australia) and Lancaster University (England), which now operate directly in Bandung without local partners.

"This means new students can choose to continue their master's studies directly in the UK or Australia. This is a huge opportunity for education and investment in Bandung," explained Farhan.

Besides education, he continued, the Bandung City Government is also focusing on the fashion sector. The existing fashion galleries are just a small part of Bandung's immense potential as a national fashion destination.

"Fashion is one of Bandung's attractions. The current gallery is just the beginning of our efforts to make Bandung an attractive fashion destination," he said.

He also mentioned investment opportunities in the property and educational tourism sectors. Many properties in Bandung could be acquired and developed into diverse tourist destinations.

"Many properties in Bandung are ready to be developed into educational tourism centers. This could encourage the creation of diverse tourist destinations in our city," he explained.

According to him, many students from outside the city and even outside the island come to study in Bandung. This brings direct economic benefits to the city.

"Students studying in Bandung can obtain a Bandung City ID card, so the taxes they pay go into the regional treasury. Furthermore, they usually come with their families, which naturally increases hotel occupancy rates and boosts the city's economic activity," he explained.

Meanwhile, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Greece, Bebeb Abdul Kurnia Nugraha Djundjunan, appreciated the steps taken by the Mayor of Bandung in opening up investment opportunities from various sectors.

"The Mayor of Bandung's vision to bring investment from within the region is a concrete step to strengthen the local economy. When investment comes, MSMEs grow," he said.

With a strengthening strategy in the fields of education, fashion, and tourism, the Bandung City Government is committed to making Bandung an inclusive and globally competitive investment city.
