PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said that the Jelekong area of Bandung Regency has the potential to become a location for developing a Waste to Electricity Plant to reduce waste piles while producing energy in the Greater Bandung area (30/3/2026).

The plan emerged after the Ministry of Environment assessed the Jelekong area as technically feasible as the initial location for developing a waste-based power plant.

Muhammad Farhan explained that the regional government still needs to conduct cross-regional coordination and further surveys before officially determining the location.

"Based on the initial review by the Minister of Environment, Jelekong is deemed feasible. However, we still need to confirm this through cross-governmental discussions and technical surveys to obtain an official recommendation," said Farhan.

He stated that communication with the Bandung Regency Government had been conducted and further discussions would be held in the near future at the regional and central levels.

Farhan also reminded people of the potential for social dynamics in society, so the government is preparing mitigation measures from the planning stage.

"There's potential for social conflict, which is why we need to provide special access from Tegalluar to Jelekong to avoid disrupting residents' activities," Farhan said.

The Bandung City Government considers the development of access infrastructure to the location to be an important step to ensure the smooth operation of the power plant.

"Infrastructure development is crucial to ensure that PSEL operations do not negatively impact the surrounding environment," Farhan said.

The development of a waste-to-electricity generator is expected to be a long-term solution for waste management while also providing a new energy source for the Greater Bandung area.
