PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan highlighted the need for infrastructure improvements in Bandung City during the 216th anniversary of Bandung City (HJKB).

According to him, infrastructure improvement is an important concern as the community's need for urban facilities and services increases.

Farhan said this during the DetikJabar Live Chat Special for the 216th Anniversary of Bandung City, Friday (25/9/2026).

He admitted that he enjoyed the opportunity because he could return to activities that were once part of his daily life as a broadcaster.

"I'm always happy to be on a podcast, because it's a return to my world as a broadcaster. It's a way to let go of an old hobby," said Farhan.

He said that interaction through the media is a form of direct communication between the government and the public.

"This is a form of real communication between me as mayor and all the residents of Bandung," he said.

On that occasion, Farhan also responded to various input from residents submitted through media and digital channels.

He said the public is beginning to understand that Bandung City needs infrastructure improvements. He believes there are several approaches to development: accelerating development or implementing it in a more structured manner.

"I think people are starting to realize that we need infrastructure improvements, regardless. There are two ways to do it: a quick approach or a structured approach," he said.

Farhan realized that rapid infrastructure development could have consequences for community activities, including traffic jams.

"If you speed it up, it's not bad, it will cause traffic jams. If you use a structured method, the traffic jams will be more controlled," he said.

However, Farhan said, the approach used by the government in development must be oriented towards benefits for the community.

"But whatever method we use, we can ensure that the results of this infrastructure development will be very beneficial for everyone," he explained.

In addition, Farhan also shared his views on the transformation of the media industry.

According to him, the media cannot simply follow or respond to the needs of the public as consumers of information. They also have a role in shaping the direction of societal development.

"For me, the most important thing is that media can not only respond to the needs of the public or media consumers but also be an element that will direct trends," he said.

He hopes that the media can help encourage society towards a more productive, advanced and open life to information.
