PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan emphasized that the city government will not tolerate any form of thuggery, especially that which occurs in parking areas.
This statement was made following reports from residents regarding the actions of parking thugs that went viral on social media.
"Those thugs are often disciplined, but they appear again. I would like to thank the netizens who made it viral. The Anti-Thug Task Force is taking action. The person concerned will be charged with extortion," said Farhan, Friday (4/18/2025).
He added that the main priority of the Bandung City Government is to ensure a sense of security for residents, including in the use of parking facilities.
"The most important thing is to provide a sense of security to the people. That is the priority," he said.
Responding to questions about perpetrators who have been arrested but have returned to action, Farhan explained that previously the legal action imposed was still relatively light. But now, firm steps will be taken.
"Yes, at that time we charged a minor crime. But if it has entered into extortion and fraud, we take it to the next level of crime," he said.
Regarding handling, Farhan said that all acts of thuggery leading to fraud and extortion will be brought to the police's jurisdiction.
"This is not a raid. But we will catch them. Whoever extorts and cheats, we will find and catch. Report to the police," he said.
Regarding the polemic of parking on bicycle lanes as often seen in the Braga area, Farhan stated that it could still be tolerated to a certain extent.
"Parking on the bike lane is still acceptable, because it is part of the shared use and not a no-parking zone. But in the morning, we have to make sure no one parks there," he said.
With these steps, the Bandung City Government hopes that the city situation will remain conducive and safe for all people, without any disturbing intimidation or extortion. (Bandung City Communication and Information Service/rka)
