PORTALJABAR, BANDUNG CITY - The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, inspected the flood locations in the Rancanumpang area, Summarecon, to the Bandung Indah Raya Housing Complex, Riung Bandung (6/3/2025).

Flooding occurs because the Rancanumpang River is unable to accommodate the volume of rainwater and causes the accumulation of community organizations and public facilities.

Om Farhan ensured that he visited the affected residents, checked their conditions, and provided moral support.

He also visited SDN 216 Sondariah which was also affected by the flood and emphasized that children must still be able to go to school.

"I want to make sure that tomorrow the children can go to school. We will work so that they can return to learning comfortably," he said.

In addition, Om Farhan installed the Health Service to handle residents who experienced health problems due to flooding, such as itching, diarrhea, and ARI.

Meanwhile, the Water Resources and Highways Agency (DSDABM) and the Fire and Disaster Management Agency (Diskar PB) were asked to immediately take mitigation and handling steps in the field.

The Mayor of Bandung highlighted the importance of technical solutions in flood management, including optimizing retention ponds that have been built by Summarecon.

He said that the retention pond had not been optimally connected, so there needed to be further coordination between the Bandung City Government and the developer.

"We will find a solution so that this retention pond can function optimally. The city government will also coordinate with the River Basin Center (BBWS) to ensure that permits and regulations can support efforts to handle this flood," he said.

According to him, the flood in this area occurred because the river overflowed and was trapped in a residential area that was lower than the river level.

Therefore, it is necessary to implement engineering-based solutions.

Om Farhan has instructed DSDABM to immediately prepare an engineering design that can be implemented as a long-term solution.

In addition, all stakeholders must have the same understanding of the root of the problem so that the solutions taken are on target and sustainable.

"We started looking for a solution together. The most important thing is that all stakeholders must have the same perception of this problem. After that, we will move according to our respective roles to solve it," he said. (Bandung City Communication and Information Service/Fauziah)
